My peers and my superiors were almost all really enjoyable to work with. The work was not challenging, but it was largely rewarding.
What I wish was different
Without giving away too many details, the disappearance of a key person in the early stages of the project resulted in a decentralized command structure that ended up being more of a hindrance than a help.
Advice
This was a very worthwhile endeavor, even though the initial, on-paper application may not have made it look like much of anything.

Don't be afraid to apply to reach out and apply to labs. I was rejected by so many. In the end, it's the one that accepts you that matters, not the others that rejected you

What I liked
The Math REU offered a variety of courses, provided a vast mentoring network, and, most notably, granted me the opportunity to choose an area of interest and develop an original paper on the subject.
What I wish was different
I wish there had been a greater emphasis on analysis, but that is only a matter of personal preference. Other than that, the experience was excellent.
Advice
One ought not to pick a topic that is too difficult provided one's background, as it will spare one from frustration and frequent errors.
