BSCD Summer Undergraduate Clinical Research Fellowship - 2026
Description of the opportunity, including time and goals:
Undergraduate students will gain hands-on experience in medical research by joining a clinical research team to support day-to-day activities. This is an opportunity to assist with real studies involving human health, working alongside professionals in data collection and analysis. This is an invaluable opportunity to contribute to healthcare and research. Opportunities for conferences and journal clubs also exist. Students are expected to work 40 hours/week.
Stipend: $5,500
Duties & Responsibilities:
Potential responsibilities could include:
- Screening patients for eligibility in the study using Electronic Health Record data
- Approaching eligible patients for consent
- Enrolling consented participants
- Conducting surveys and/or interviews with enrolled participants
- Entering study data and documenting study procedures
- Protecting patient data and confidentiality by ensuring security of research data and personal health information in compliance with federal regulations
- Maintaining accurate and complete records and ensuring proper data quality
- Potentially helping with dissemination or some analysis under the direction of our CRC’s
- Attending team meetings and communicating regularly with research team
- Attend two one-hour educational sessions (Date/Time TBD)
- Attend and participate in a end of program report out event (Date/Time TBD)
Any requirements or prerequisites for the position:
We are seeking dependable, organized, and detail-oriented undergraduate students to work on a variety of research projects. The undergraduate students will work within a team dedicated to improving the health of adults with chronic diseases. This individual must have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. The ideal candidate would have a background and interest in science, healthcare, community health, clinical research, or health outcomes research. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is preferred.
Prior research experience, including use of EPIC and REDCap and/or patient-facing experience, is beneficial but not required.
Students will be required to work with a faculty mentor participating in this fellowship. Students should select one of the mentors below and describe their proposed research interests that would match up with them:

Valerie Press (Associate Fellowship Director; Primary Care; Internal Medicine/Pediatrics) – up to 2 students
Bhakti Patel (Pulmonary Medicine; Critical Care Medicine) - up to 2 students
Nathaniel Glasser (Primary Care; Internal Medicine/Pediatrics) - up to 2 students
Matthew Ettleson (Endocrinology) - 1 student
