Neuroscience Research Metcalf Internship - 2026

The Neuroscience Research Metcalf Internship gives second- and third-year students majoring in Neuroscience the opportunity to complete research in a neuroscience laboratory over the summer quarter. The program provides support to talented undergraduates as they engage in cutting-edge research with Neuroscience faculty members and their research teams. This internship is designed to enhance students’ scientific skills and knowledge while preparing them for careers in science and beyond.

To apply, students will identify a UChicago Neuroscience faculty member (Principal Investigator, or PI), and develop a project that is feasible within the confines of this 10-week program. Neuroscience Metcalf Interns will work full-time in their PI’s laboratory throughout the summer quarter to complete their proposed project. All work is expected to be completed on-campus.

Neuroscience Metcalf Interns will attend weekly, in-person meetings with the Neuroscience Metcalf program directors and their fellow Neuroscience Metcalf researchers. These meetings are designed to provide a supportive research community and build connections that extend beyond the summer. Students will take part in professional development and receive training on how to think critically, design experiments, analyze data, and communicate scientific findings effectively. All students will present their work with a research talk at the end of the quarter.

The 10-week program will begin on Monday, June 15th, 2026, and will conclude on Saturday, August 22nd, 2026. Students will receive a $5,500 stipend. Students may not register for any courses during this 10-week summer internship as the stipend is regarded as full-time research.
