Metcalf Clinic | Research Assistant for Bibliographer for Art and Cinema

  • Fellowship Stipend Range $500 (per quarter)
  • Winter & Spring Quarter + Possible Extension to Summer

Careers in the Arts & Humanities Metcalf Winter/Spring Clinic

Metcalf Clinics are co-op, project-based training program for UChicago students. During the paid project, teams of undergraduates take a deep dive into a professional area of interest and build relevant experience. Students are placed in teams to lead engagements, research, and projects with employer partners. During the program, your receive access to coaches, industry experts, and the opportunity to network. These clinics are terrific way to hone professional development in technical research, analysis, strategic planning, and presentation skills and a great boost to your resume.

Research Assistant with Nancy Spiegel, Bibliographer for Art and Cinema (two positions)

Regenstein Library

Project Description:

The Library recently acquired a significant gift of modern and contemporary art books.  Numbering over 3000 volumes, this collection needs to be searched in library databases and evaluated for duplication or transfer to Mansueto or the Hanna Holborn Gray Special Collections Research Center. 

 

Hours per week:  

Six hours a week for 9 weeks. Hours are flexible once the initial training has been completed. 

 

Specialized skills

  • Accuracy and close attention to detail
  • Ability to work well independently
  • Knowledge of one or more European languages is helpful but not required.

 

Outcomes

The research assistant will have an opportunity to handle and evaluate hundreds of interesting and unusual books while helping the library move these materials into the collection for patron use.  By the conclusion of the internship, the research assistant will have gained skills necessary to become an expert, independent and resourceful researcher.
