Careers in Law: Rising Attorneys Program 2026-27 Cohort
The Careers in Law team is proud to offer the Rising Attorneys Program, dedicated to promoting the success of future law students with a special focus on issues relevant to those from low-income families. The program is open to all rising third- and fourth-year students planning to apply to law school within the next five years who can commit to taking the LSAT by June 30, 2027.
Cohort members will:
•Enjoy professional mentorship
•Be enrolled in the Blueprint LSAT prep course at no cost to the cohort member
•If denied an LSAC waiver, be reimbursed for the registration fee to sit for up to two LSAT test dates, along with the cost for Score Preview for each test (for all tests registered for by June 30, 2027)
•If denied an LSAC waiver, be reimbursed for the cost of your Credit Assembly Service fee
•Enjoy programming that includes sample classes taught by law school professors and presentations from law school admissions officers
•Benefit from quarterly career and law school advising with a Careers in Law adviser
•Cohort members who complete all obligations will receive a designation on their transcript
(All benefits expire June 30, 2027. You must actually take the LSAT in order to be reimbursed for the registration.)
Cohort members will be expected to:
•Correspond regularly with mentor and adviser
•Apply for an LSAC fee waiver by June 30, 2026, appealing the decision if initially denied
•Enroll in and take full advantage of a Blueprint course that will set you up to take an LSAT exam before June 30, 2027
•Take the LSAT at least once before June 30, 2027
•Attend all programming. We will have approximately three events per quarter in the evenings. Event dates are shared well in advance. Events will be a mix of in-person and virtual.
Before applying, ask yourself if this is the right year for you to participate.
•Studying for the LSAT will be a part-time job. Will this commitment fit into your plans for the next 12 months?
•Expect to spend close to 200 hours over the course of 3 months when preparing for the LSAT
•Can you commit to attending 3 evening events per quarter?
Application Process
On or prior to April 15, 2026, please submit the following via Handshake, each as a PDF:
- Resume, no longer than one page.
- Answers to the following questions:
- In 250 words or less, why is law school, and a subsequent career in law, a good fit for you?
- In 250 words or less, how have your past experiences provided you with a perspective that will benefit and inform your time in law school and your work as a lawyer?
- In 250 words or less, how do you envision your participation in the Rising Attorneys Program impacting you, financially and otherwise, as you work towards attending law school?
- LSAT Timeline: If selected for the Rising Attorneys Program, you will be expected to take the LSAT at least once by June 30, 2027, preparing for the test by taking a Blueprint course. If you are unhappy with your score and want to take the exam a second time by June 30, 2027, the Rising Attorneys Program will also pay for that second registration. Please propose a timeline of when you plan to begin your studies, take the exam, and take the exam a second time, if necessary. Please note that your second exam date cannot be the test date immediately after your first. If your schedule does not allow you to have a backup exam date before June 30, 2027, you may still apply for the Rising Attorneys Program; however, you will not be eligible for reimbursement if you need to take the test a second time. You can access future LSAT test dates here and the Blueprint course schedule here. While the Blueprint course schedule may not be released for your target test date, the options listed will give you an idea of what your timeline will look like. Giving yourself a couple of weeks to a month between the end of your Blueprint course and your test date to continue to take practice tests can be ideal.
- Please describe your other anticipated requirements during the timeline proposed above. What other commitments do you anticipate having? Will you be writing a thesis? Working or interning? Playing a sport or involved in an RSO? Why is this timeline ideal for you? How many hours do you think you can commit each week to LSAT prep during this time?
- To the extent determined, when do you plan on applying to law school? It’s okay if you don’t have an exact timeline. A general sense is okay!
Applications are due by 11:55 p.m. on April 15, 2026. Please contact Priya Laroia at plaroia@uchicago.edu with any questions.
