Internship Time Commitment: approximately 320-400 hours over 8-10 weeks
Work Structure: This is a hybrid/on-site (San Francisco, CA) internship. Interns are expected to work during organization’s business hours of operations
Metcalf Stipend: $4,000

Summer 2026 Operations & Innovation Intern
Internship Description
Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco (BGCSF) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented intern to support multiple departments as we improve our processes, reporting, and use of AI. The departments interested in advancing in these areas are our Finance Department, Legal Department, and Human Resources Department. This unique opportunity provides exposure to key aspects of nonprofit data management, financial reporting, HR processes, legal management, and systems.
Interns will gain hands-on experience in nonprofit financial modeling, data analysis, process automation, and system improvement. This role is ideal for students interested in nonprofit management, financial management, financial reporting, data-driven dashboards across multiple departments, and more. A key component of the role is designing and developing reporting and models through the use of AI built on internal organization data, and to help build interconnected systems that work across the organization.
Responsibilities
Finance Department
- Budgeting & Financial Tools: Assist in managing and advancing our current Google Sheets-based budgeting tool, integrating data from NetSuite. Update and maintain the Google Sheets workbook, consolidating all BGCSF departmental budgets. Ascertain ways to ensure this tool is as advanced and automated as possible.
- Data Integration & Automation: Explore ways to sync financial data between NetSuite and Google Sheets, potentially leveraging scripts or automation tools. Assist in streamlining and automating a wide variety of dashboard reports.
- Financial Analysis & Reporting: Utilize technology to extract and analyze financial data to support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Process Improvement and Special Projects: Support vendor savings projects by analyzing costs and identifying efficiencies. Work on ad hoc projects to enhance financial processes as needed.
Human Resources Department
- Attrition & Workforce Analytics: Support the development of dashboards and reporting tools to track key HR metrics, including attrition, retention, and headcount trends.
- Recruitment Pipeline Management: Help assess and improve the efficiency of our recruitment workflow from job posting through offer acceptance.
- Onboarding Process Improvement: Evaluate our current onboarding experience and identify opportunities to standardize and improve the process for new hires.
- Employee Relations & Theme Identification: Analyze employee relations data to surface recurring themes and support a positive workplace culture.
Legal Department
- Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) Optimization: Assess current contract management processes and explore tools or automations to improve efficiency and visibility.
- Vendor Relationship Analysis & Cost Savings: Analyze vendor relationships to identify cost savings opportunities and develop a framework for evaluating vendor performance.
Requirements/Qualifications
Academic & Professional Interest
- Strong interest in nonprofit organizations, especially those with a focus on youth development
- Interest in AI, data, systems, efficiencies, and technology
- Willingness to work across a broad range of projects and with multiple areas of the organization
- Ability to take initiative, ask thoughtful questions, and engage in critical thinking
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Proficiency in working with AI in technical capacities that result in turning manual processes, reporting, and dashboards into automated tasks
- Proficiency in AI usage, Google Workspace applications, and the Microsoft Suite
- Comfort with data analysis and reporting tools, with an interest in learning about financial systems like Oracle NetSuite and Salesforce
- Proficiency with automation, scripting, and database management
Organizational & Communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage data accurately
- Excellent organizational skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating across departments
