AI in the B(AY) - Academic Year Internship Program [2026-2027]

Internship Time Commitment: Part-time, 15-20 hours/week during all three academic quarters: Fall 2026, Winter 2027, and Spring 2027.  

Location: Internships will be remote with students completing the work from campus in Chicago.

Dates:  Fall 2026 – Spring 2027

Funding: Selected students will receive a $5,000 Metcalf Stipend for a 3-quarter experience

Internships that start later in the year will include a pro-rated stipend based on the length of the commitment.

Gain hands-on experience in one of the world's most dynamic technology hubs. The AI in the Bay Academic Year Internship Program connects UChicago students with leading Bay Area employers working at the forefront of artificial intelligence.

 

Internships are part-time and fully remote, running across all three quarters of the academic year. This model gives students exclusive, ongoing exposure to the AI industry and rapidly evolving technologies and business models. 

 

Internship placements will span three types of employers, offering students a range of ways to engage with the AI industry:

 

  • Generative AI & LLM Pioneers: Leading-edge firms and research labs developing next-generation foundation models 
  • High-Growth AI Startups: Venture-backed startups building specialized AI applications across fintech, healthcare, and enterprise software 
  • Enterprise Tech Leaders: Established Silicon Valley technology companies deploying AI and machine learning at scale

Beginning in September, students will receive access to an AI in the B(AY) Job Board to view specific opportunities. Students will be able to select the internships for which they would like to be considered.

Requirements:

  • 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Year College students
  • Must be intending to be fully enrolled during the full 26-27 academic year.
  • Open to all majors; technical or quantitative majors strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Prior AI/ML, computer science, data analytics experience is beneficial.
  • Strong self-direction and time management skills
  • Comfort working independently in a remote environment, including proactive communication and responsiveness to incoming communications
