Education Program Facilitator – Oriental Institute Museum

General Description
This posting covers two versions of this position, one that begins during the coming 2018-2019 academic year, Education Program Facilitator, and one that begins this summer, Education Program Facilitator Lead. Both positions run youth and family programs, while the Lead position also works regular hours in the Education Department office.

Teach archaeology education programs to K-12 school, family, and youth groups at the Oriental Institute Museum. Learn inquiry-based instructional techniques and build knowledge of ancient Near Eastern history and archaeology. Develop public speaking skills, learn engaging teaching and tour techniques, and manage a classroom. Assist with the implementation of new programs for youth and family audiences. Interact with and engage large groups of program participants of varying ages, ability levels, and diverse backgrounds. Create a welcoming and inclusive museum environment for all visitors.

Education Program Facilitator Lead
June 18, 2018 – June 15, 2019 (with possibility of extension)

Commitment from June 2018 – June 2019 (with exception of academic year school breaks) at 22.5 hours per week in the summer, and 10 hours per week during the academic year, with days and times to be scheduled in consultation with supervisor and according to programming needs. Must have summer availability Tuesdays and Thursdays 9am-1pm, July-August. Learn and deliver school field trip programs and family workshops and programs covering archaeology, bioarchaeology, zooarchaeology, ancient writing, ancient art, mummification, and more. Assist in the preparation of materials and evaluation of programs and workshops. Lead programs and manage volunteers in a fun, fast-paced environment. In conjunction with other Education Department staff, develop program and marketing materials using Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, and Photoshop, and analyze and report on visitor statistics and financial data using Microsoft Office Suite. Work independently on office tasks and solve problems. Assist with other office tasks as needed.

Education Program Facilitator
October 1, 2018 – June 15, 2019 (with possibility of extension)

Commitment from October 2018 – June 2019 (with exception of school breaks) at approximately 4-6 hours per week, with days and times to be scheduled in consultation with supervisor. Hours of service are based on season of year.

The first phase of training for this position will be done remotely over the summer and will include some reading and teaching-preparation exercises.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Availability mornings Tuesday-Friday. Some weekends and evenings.
  • Applicants must be entering 2nd year of an undergraduate program or higher.
  • Prior knowledge of ancient Near Eastern history and/or archaeology preferred, but not required.
