To encourage professional development by means of research opportunities that occur in a laboratory setting, UCISTEM will begin accepting applications in January 2019 for UCISTEM Research Grants to support students who have obtained unpaid research assistantships taking place during the 2019 summer quarter.

Funding details for UCISTEM Summer Research Grant:
A limited number of grants of up to $2000.00 are available to support students in unpaid substantive and pertinent educational opportunities in STEM research; no awards will be given retroactively for work completed. This grant is intended to fund projects affiliated with a formal institution, and thus should include a mentorship component.

Application Process:
Students will secure a research opportunity and then apply for the grant. To be considered for the grant, students must submit:
·    a resume;
·    a short statement that explains how this opportunity will enhance your career goals in STEM;
·    a list of other grant opportunities to which you have applied to fund this research experience (Summer Action, International Experience, etc);
·    brief research statement (description of research you will be working on in the lab);
·    contact information of Institution, Lab and PI and a letter outlining proof of consent and a work agreement from the lab manager or PI. Please ensure that the letter includes the expected duration of the position and how many hours you will spend in lab per week.
Recipients of the grant will participate in a UCISTEM Summer Research Grant Kickoff Dinner in the Spring Quarter, and must write a brief reflection (1-2 pages) at the end of the experience; failure to do so may result in deactivation from On-Campus Recruiting. Additionally, grant recipients will receive a UCISTEM mentor for the duration of their research position.
Grant recipients are highly encouraged to present their research at the UCISTEM Fall 2019 Undergraduate Research Symposium.
Deadline for full consideration: April 25th, 2019
