UChicago Small Business Grant Program

UChicago Small Business Grant Program
The UChicago Small Business Grant Program will offer fellowship awards to support students who have self-sourced an opportunity and complete project-based work with a small business this academic year and/or summer. Students’ work should contribute to the organization’s growth and scalability and help the small business address key challenges, define new opportunities, and/or implement steps to sustain competitive positioning. Eligible businesses are established, community-based organizations with at least one year of revenue in need of help with a specific project to support growth, costs, or efficiency. The student is a consultant working on a particular assignment for a defined period.

This grant is for established, community-based businesses. Students working on startups can apply for the Metcalf grant.

Award
Small Business Grants are fellowships designed to help students offset their living expenses rather than provide an hourly wage or salary. Award amounts are determined using a sliding scale in which all students working a given range of hours will receive a standardized fellowship amount.

Eligibility
All enrolled undergraduates are eligible to apply for the UChicago Small Business Grant Program.

Application Process
  • Resume and cover letter must be submitted via on UChicago Handshake.
  • Cover letter should provide a description of the project work, length of the experience, and answer clearly and concisely: “Why is this an opportunity that you are interested in pursuing and where you’re excited to contribute your skills and experience?”

You are encouraged to schedule an appointment with a Career Advancement adviser to review your materials.
