Clinical Excellence Scholars Track

Clinical Excellence Scholar Track (CEST) Application for Academic Year 2021-22

  1. You must be a current second-year student, with plans to graduate in June of 2023

·      Application Questions
After completing the required pre-requisite activities for the Clinical Excellence Scholar Track (CEST) program, we would like for you to reflect on your experiences volunteering, attending lectures, etc. over the past academic year. Please incorporate your reflections in your responses to the applications questions about: the CEST program, the doctor-patient relationship, and a personal challenge.
 
About the CEST Program
1.      What are your reasons for applying to the CEST program, and what do you hope to gain from the experience? Please include the Joel Schwab, MD “On Being a Doctor” lectures that you attended and your reflection on their content.
2.      Describe your volunteer experience(s) over this past year. Provide a reflection on what you learned and the skills you gained, and how you feel these lessons will influence your participation in the CEST program.
 
About the Doctor-Patient Relationship
3.      How would you describe/define the ‘Doctor-Patient Relationship? What experience(s) have you had that have shaped your perspective towards providing compassionate care? What challenges do you see affecting the Doctor-Patient Relationship?
 
About a Personal Challenge
4.      What has your greatest challenge been thus far? How did you overcome the challenge? What resources did you utilize in your management of this challenge?
 
Your response statement should not exceed three pages of length. You should address these questions in question-and-answer format (meaning: type out the question, then the answer beneath it).
 
·      A resume including your current GPA
 
·      A letter of recommendation from an individual who knows you and can speak to your passion for health and medicine and/or the skills that would predict your success in this program (leadership, teamwork, professionalism, etc.). Recommenders should be from your time as a University of Chicago undergraduate and may include faculty, research supervisors, TAs, RAs, RSO supervisors, coaches, etc. Letters should be sent via email to krapec@uchicago.edu.
