Arts Technologies Student Staff (Logan Center/MADD Center)

General Summary:
The Arts Technologies area at UChicagoArts comprises the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation Media Center (JLMC), the two Arts Labs at the Media Arts, Data + Design Center (MADD), and the Logan Center Wood and Metal Shops. Collectively, Arts Technologies supports the work of student, staff, and faculty artists and makers across campus.
 
Working in one or multiple areas, Arts Technologies student staff work closely with professional staff to maintain each lab’s facilities and foster community and knowledge-sharing among users. Student staff members often develop and execute projects related to their skills and interests.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Consulting with and advising student, staff, and faculty artists on project planning and technical workflows
  • Managing resources and facilities through our online WebCheckout system
  • Supporting production-focused community programs facilitated by Arts Technologies
  • Organization of physical inventories and digital resources (tutorials, Canvas sites, etc.)
  • Working with web-based tools
  • Wayfinding assistance, reception, and other customer service oriented tasks
 
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate or graduate student
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and independent
  • Demonstrated experience and involvement in fields such as digital media production, fabrication, game design, visual art, and/or communications
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborative work
  • Demonstrated interest in issues related to creative and artistic life on campus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
 
Specific duties will vary according to intern’s skills and interests, but may include:
  • Developing learning materials and tutorials for equipment or software
  • Assisting users with equipment checkouts
  • Assisting users with technical troubleshooting
  • Building Canvas courses and modules to communicate with lab users
 
Hours and Schedule:
Flexible; between 6-20 hours per week
 
Wage:
$15.40/hr

Fall 2021

Logan Center Wood and Metal Shops student staff work on the floor of the Logan Center Shops aiding users, maintaining equipment, and checking out hand tools.

Media Arts, Data + Design Center (MADD) Arts Labs student staff will work closely with the center’s professional staff to operate this unique space housing the Hack Arts Lab (HAL), the Weston Game Lab (WGL), and a host of other resources.

Jonathan Logan Family Foundation Media Center (JLMC) student staff will work as leaders of the community of filmmakers, musicians, visual artists and other multimedia creators at the Logan Center and across campus. Responsibilities include providing assistance to users at the Media Center desk on the Lower Level of the Logan Center, leading educational workshops, and managing the JLMC’s vast inventory of production equipment.
 
These positions are competitive and will be assigned on a rolling basis.
