Kiphart Collegiate Fellows Program

The Kiphart Center for Global Health and Social Development, established in 2021, seeks to expand educational initiatives and global health and social development research and innovation to advance global health equity and well-being. With a focus on the social determinants of health and the ways in which social development policy and practice can promote the advancement and welfare of vulnerable populations around the world, the Center brings together expertise from around the University to build knowledge, train students, incubate innovative interventions, and shape policy and practice toward the health and well-being of marginalized populations globally.

Career Advancement is partnering with this new, innovative center to launch the Kiphart Collegiate Fellows Program, which will provide a cohort of up to 15 College students stipends to support experiential learning internships in global health and social development, with a preferred focus on the Global South. In addition to a substantive summer internship, all Kiphart Collegiate Fellows have access to exclusive cohort events, including a spring kickoff event and a symposium in Autumn Quarter 2022 to present on their internship experience. The goal of the program is for students to gain hands-on experience working in the field, learn from leaders in global health and social development, and connect with like-minded peers at UChicago.

Once Fellows are accepted into the program, they will be eligible for a $5,000 stipend to support their summer internship. Fellows will be given access to an exclusive job board highlighting eligible opportunities, with organizations such as Doctors Without Borders, FAO, UNICEF, Unite for Sight, USAID, and Women in Global Health. Students will also have the option to use their funding for self-secured internship positions that meet the goals of the program. Career Advancement will support students with applying for internships and identifying potential host organizations.

Fellows will also be welcome to apply for the summer 2022 Global Health and Social Development Policy Challenge, which will be a month-long, virtual competition where teams of UChicago students and students from other institutions will propose policy solutions to a significant global health and social development challenge.
