Fellowship Award Amount: $1,250 per quarter
Internship Time Commitment: 7.5 hours/weekly

Human Rights Lab Metcalf Programming Intern
The Human Rights Lab actively engages University of Chicago students and community members in solutions to human rights problems, advancing new questions around human rights theory and practice through the lens of deep research, experiential learning, and critical community-building. In its first five years, under the leadership of Director of Human Rights Practice Alice Kim, the Lab is addressing the intersecting human rights crises of racialized policing and mass incarceration in the United States. Up to two students will be selected.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
This student position will assist with Human Rights Lab events, communications, and special projects throughout the academic year. Under the supervision of the Director of Human Rights
Practice and Program Coordinator, the Human Rights Lab Intern works closely with staff, the Lab’s student team, and the Mass Incarceration Working Group to plan, implement, and document
various events, special projects, and operations throughout the school year.
The Human Rights Lab Intern will help with event marketing, logistics, and outreach throughout the academic year.
- Assist with event outreach: design event posters and flyers with a consistent visual identity; create, develop, and contact curated outreach lists; communicate with on-campus partners; and publicize events on social media including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
- Assist with writing blog post stories, event recaps, and other short features for the Pozen Center website.
- Staff events and provide logistical support for Human Rights Lab programming including public events, Mass Incarceration Working group meetings, and student/community partner-initiated programming.
- Support the Lab’s prison education partnerships at Stateville and Logan Prisons including research support for incarcerated students.
- Provide support for special projects and community-based partnership initiatives
- Establish a weekly schedule reflecting in-person hours in the Pozen Lab office and remote hours.
When event support is needed, hours can be added to the weekly schedule or rearranged to provide staffing at Lab events. The position is open to students of all years and will take place both remotely and in-person, as public health circumstances permit.
Requirements
The student assistant must be a current University of Chicago student, with preference given to Human Rights, CRES, and RDI minors, or those otherwise familiar with the Lab. The assistant must reliably fulfill deadline requirements, have excellent communication skills, and pay impeccable attention to detail. Excellent technical skills in Adobe Creative
Suite and graphic design are strongly preferred. The student must be able to work independently, interact effectively with supervisors and peers, and exercise good judgment.
