Curatorial Intern, European Art, Prints and Drawings, and Modern and Contemporary Art

Blanton Museum of Art

The Blanton Museum of Art seeks one remote or in-person full-time undergraduate curatorial intern to work 40 hours per week for nine weeks during the summer quarter (start date negotiable). Undergraduate students in Art History or related fields are encouraged to apply.
 
This curatorial intern will report to two curators and support collection and exhibition research in the European Art, Prints and Drawings, and Modern and Contemporary Art departments. The main duties of the intern will be researching the Blanton's European paintings, as well as objects in the Modern and Contemporary Art collection. The intern will also conduct research for an upcoming exhibition on two American artists of the 1940s and two early modern European exhibitions.
 
Duties will include:
  • ·    Compiling and updating individual object folders for objects in permanent collection
  • ·    Researching historical and cultural context of artworks
  • ·    Drafting exhibition label texts (100-150 words each)
 
Helpful skills:
  • ·     Reading knowledge of at least 1 foreign language (French or Italian preferred)
  • ·     Strong background in art history, European history pre-1900, or twentieth-century U.S. history
  • ·     Working knowledge and facility with, as well as access to, academic libraries and databases
