Research Assistant - Scientific visualizations and graphic design (Cobey Lab)

Title: Research Assistant - Scientific visualizations and graphic design 

 

Job description: The Cobey Lab (cobeylab.uchicago.edu) is looking for assistance with scientific visualizations for multiple projects involving viral evolution and vaccination. These visualizations will be used for scientific publications, presentations, grant proposals, the lab website, and more. The ideal candidate would also be skilled in statistical analyses and mathematical modeling. For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity to add more research responsibilities to this role and increase hours.

 

Responsibilities:

  • To assist with the development of professional-quality scientific figures in R
  • To create schematics and visualizations (potentially using languages/platforms other than R) illustrating themes and workflows
  • To follow best practices in working with data, including version control and unit testing
  • To read relevant literature for context

Requirements:

  • Strong background in R and ideally another language
  • Experience generating high-quality schematics and representational illustrations, e.g., in Adobe Illustrator
  • Some coursework in statistics
  • Strong motivation to communicate scientific research accurately
  • Ability to adapt to constructive feedback

Other: Location is on campus (Hyde Park).  Part-time. 5-10 h/week. This role is not benefits eligible.
